Witchy Halloween party ideas: Fun crafts and activities for a magical night in

Know that whatever you do will be enough, but here are some ideas, just in case you’d like a little inspiration:

• Make celestial gift bag lanterns. 🌙 Get a few gift bags in Halloween colours like black, purple or orange. Draw shapes like stars and moons on the front, slip a piece of scrap cardboard in to protect the back side, and cut the shapes out with a craft knife. Add adhesive beads and gems and tape a piece of tissue paper inside the bag to cover your moon or star-shaped opening. Slip a battery-powered tea light into the bag and voila—a lantern with an otherworldly, astrological glow.
• Make oversize zodiac sign ornaments that you can hang from your ceiling or doorways. 🦂 There are many ways to do this, from drawing your own on shimmering card stock to printing them off and making cutouts. Pair with twinkle lights for an extra mystical effect.
• Use all-black dishes and platters, sprinkling in crystal elements like grey drink goblets and thrifted or vintage silverware. 🍴By using serving ware as décor, you elevate your food presentation and show off your mesmerizing style.
• Make an old-school paper chain garland. ⛓️ This construction paper garland is popular during the Christmas season, but we’re making it a thing for Halloween witches! Use black paper, cut out rings, string together and drape throughout your party rooms. Twining them around some gauzy purple tulle would be extra enchanting.
• Sprinkle in creepy candlesticks. 🕯️ Thrift some vintage candlesticks that look like they’re straight out of a haunted mansion. The taller and more ornate, the better! You don’t even need to fill them all with candles. Instead drape dried, burgundy roses around the bases to entice mystery and intrigue. If you DO use candles, try flameless or place them in safe spots so they can be monitored at all times.
• Add dead, dried flowers and roses to dark vases. 🥀 This is pretty easy! A week or two before, buy yourself a few bouquets. Let them dry out and, voila, you’ve got crackly, cackly floral arrangements!
• Place pumpkins on tables and counters. 🎃 You could even get decorative, reusable pumpkins like this gorgeous glass beauty to use year after witchy year!
• Display a bona fide witch house. 🧙‍♀️ Hallmark has one complete with a sound and light show that will wow your guests. If you’re looking to create more of a display, there’s a haunted house, a crooked street sign and a few happy-go-lucky Halloween characters, too.

Watch your favourite witchy woman movies! There are so many, you’re bound to find a few that fit with your chosen theme. Here are a few of our magical picks:

Incorporating astrology-themed party ideas and crystal-themed party décor can be as simple as popping in a few specific details.

• Weave table numbers (like at weddings) into your décor. 💖 You can write a brief sentence or two on homemade place cards about their meanings. For example: Three represents childlike wonder, creativity and optimism.
• Create a table-scape with tiny, framed prints of the different zodiac flowers. 🌻 You might want to find out each guest’s zodiac flower ahead of time, so that they can take home their specific print at the end of the party. • Scatter name-tags with astrology adjectives or descriptions for guests to choose and wear. ⚖️ Again, I’ll use Libra as an example. My name-tag might say “Quite the diplomat, but WAY indecisive.” (See how much fun you can have writing these?)
• Use sparkly stuff you have for crystal inspiration. ✨ You might have a candelabra, candle votives or even costume jewellery that gives those ethereal vibes.
• Pop in whimsical surface patterns. 🕸️ Tablecloths, tea towels and peel-‘n’-stick wallpaper with woodland creatures, folklore and dreamlike scenes can work as table coverings or runners.

• Send witchy wishes for a Happy Halloween. 💌 Set up an old, black typewriter (that still works) on a table with some candles and a few slips of nice paper. Provide Halloween cards for guests to send or encourage them to bring their own, then type up sweet “spells” to go inside.

• Customize your own candy jars. 🍬 Repurpose jam jars as candy jars! Provide different types of colourful candies that guests can choose from. Make lids out of bits of fabric and ribbon ties.
• Have a colouring party. 🖍️ Print witch-themed colouring sheets online and provide crayons. This is a low-key activity to cajole your introverts to come to your witchy circle! Sit around, colour and let the conversation naturally flow.
• Write your own horoscopes. 🌗 Provide guests with basic zodiac sign meanings and have each person write their own predictions. Cooking with the Entire Coven

So you’re making your meal together! Depending on your crowd, you can do a few things.

• Cooking can make some people anxious and stressed (I know this for a fact). So if you have folks who don’t want any part in food prep, offer bites at various stations. Let them munch and mingle at their own pace. You could even have a creation table so folks can customize their sandwich, cupcake, fondue or candy jar.
• Prepare the meal while folks sip and socialize around the kitchen cauldron, ahem, island. If people want to join in, great! If they just want to observe, that’s fine, too!
• Sit around your dining table and make a food craft together, like orange slice garland. It can be a fun way to initiate conversation and get a head-start on holiday décor.
• Decorate cookies while watching Halloween movies. Provide icing, sprinkles and other candies.
• Gather guests around the firepit for s’mores! Do a tutorial beforehand if people have never made their own. Also, help those who are destined to burn everything they cook!
